Unit of Measure Prompt for D365 Business Central Overview

When an item with multiple units of measure is added to an LS Express POS line or a Sales Order sales line, the Unit of Measure Prompt extension automatically opens the Item Unit of Measure Selection page. This page displays all available units for the item, along with their respective quantities per base unit and prices. After the user selects the desired unit of measure, it is applied to the sales line.

Extension Setup or Configuration Page

Unit of Measure Prompt for D365 Business Central Features

Search > Unit of Measure Prompt Setup page provides options to append information about the selected unit to the item's description on the sales document.

  • Append Base Unit to Description: When enabled, the unit of measure code is appended to the end of the sales line description after the base unit is selected.
  • Append Alt. Unit to Description: When enabled and a unit other than the base unit is selected, the selected unit code is appended to the description.
  • Append Alt. Qty. Per Unit to Description: When a unit other than the base unit is selected, the quantity per unit of measure is appended to the sales line description.

Disabling the Prompt for Specific Items

  • To prevent a specific item from opening the Item Unit of Measure Selection page, use the Disable Unit Prompt field under the Prices & Sales tab of the Item Card.

Operation Instructions

Adding an Item to a Sale

  1. Add an item with multiple units of measure to a sales document.
  2. The Unit of Measure Prompt page appears automatically.
  3. Review the available units, quantity per base unit, and corresponding prices.

Selecting a Unit of Measure

  1. Review the available units and their details.
  2. Select the desired unit of measure.
  3. The selected unit is applied to the item on the sales line.

Unit of Measure Prompt Lock Extension

  • An additional extension called Unit of Measure Prompt Lock is available to help prevent the unit from being changed after it is selected in the Unit of Measure Prompt dialog. It saves the selected unit of measure and checks that it remains selected if the unit of measure field is changed on the line.
    • This additional app is normally unnecessary. Install it only if the selected unit reverts to the item's base unit or is not applied to the line.
    • Unit of Measure Prompt version 1.1.2.0 or higher must be installed.
    • Upload and install the separate Unit of Measure Prompt Lock extension supplied by System Solutions LLC as a PTE App file.
    • The lock extension addresses the scenario in which the sales line quantity is entered before the item number, causing the unit to reset and making it appear that the prompt did not apply the selection.

Example Business Workflows

Sales Order With Individual and Case Units

Add an item configured with an individual base unit and an alternate case unit to a Sales Order sales line. Review the quantity per base unit and price, then select the required unit for the sale.

LS Express POS Unit Selection

Add an item with multiple units of measure to an LS Express POS line. Review the available choices on the Item Unit of Measure Selection page and apply the appropriate unit to the sales line.

Item That Should Not Display the Prompt

On the Item Card, use the Disable Unit Prompt field under Prices & Sales for an item that should not open the Item Unit of Measure Selection page.

Sales Description With Alternate Unit Details

On the Unit of Measure Prompt Setup page, enable the applicable alternate-unit description options. Select an alternate unit and confirm that its code or quantity per unit is appended to the sales line description.
